If you suffer from chronic pain in different parts of your body or from tension headaches, you may find relief with trigger point injections. A trigger point is a knot that forms in a muscle when it can’t relax.
You’ll have pain in that area, and you may even be able to feel the knot when you move your hands across the muscle. In addition, because the knots aggravate nerves, it will trigger pain in other areas.
These trigger points can cause chronic pain in the neck and shoulders or back and can even cause tension headaches or migraines. They can be caused by inflammation, injury, or trauma.
Medications and massage therapy may help, but if you aren’t getting relief, it’s time to consider innovative trigger point injections with Lisa at New Hampshire Regenerative Center LLC in Manchester, New Hampshire.
We use trigger point injections to lessen patients’ muscle tightness and pain. Here are five reasons why you should consider trigger point injections, too.
- Used to treat different types of pain
Trigger point injections treat pain in different areas of the body, including:
- Neck and shoulders
- Back
- Arms or legs
- Tension headaches or migraines – caused by trigger points within muscles
- Fibromyalgia – widespread musculoskeletal pain
- Myofascial pain syndrome – muscle pain that worsens and causes referred pain in other areas
When you come in for a consultation, or if you’re a current patient, our staff will determine an appropriate treatment plan and let you know if trigger point injections are suitable for you.
- Fast pain relief
Trigger point injections take 15 minutes or less, and multiple areas can be treated during the same visit. One of our doctors injects a thin needle into your trigger points to deliver lidocaine or another anesthetic to block the pain receptors in the nerves near the knotted muscle. By blocking the pain receptors, pain signals aren’t then relayed to the brain. Patients feel relief almost instantly. You may need to repeat injections monthly to help keep your pain at bay, but Lisa will monitor your progress and let you know how frequently you’ll need to come.
- Safe with minimal side effects
You may feel slight soreness or numbness at the injection site, which is like getting a shot, but this is only temporary. In rare instances, bleeding at the injection site or infection may occur. In our office, we prevent infections by keeping our treatment rooms clean and by using sterilized needles and equipment. We also clean the injection site(s) on your body (e.g., arm, shoulder, neck) before administering trigger point injections.
- No downtime
You can use resume normal activities and use your muscles immediately after receiving trigger point injections. There is no downtime. You can go back to work, pick up the kids, or whatever else you need or want to do. We may recommend avoiding strenuous activity for a few days, but that’s all.
- Try when other therapies aren’t effective
If you have chronic muscle pain or headaches, you may have tried different medications, massage, ice or heat therapy, aromatherapy, or even physical therapy. If none of these methods have brought you the pain relief you were hoping for, consider trigger point injections. They’re safe, work fast, and have been effective for many of our patients.
