Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which cups are placed on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Negative pressure is created by the cups to increase blood flow and facilitate healing. Cupping can be used to relieve muscle tension, decrease pain, increase blood flow, enhance relaxation, and for overall well-being.
Cupping therapy is also used to treat anemia and hemophilia, RA and fibromyalgia, fertility, high blood pressure, migraines, anxiety and depression, bronchial congestion, and varicose veins.
Dry cupping is used in our office, and does not pierce the skin. The therapist may move the cups along the skin to create a massage-like effect. Cupping can leave temporary marks on the skin where the cups were placed. Those on blood thinners should notify the therapist prior to treatment.
