Ears seeds are small seed-like particles that are placed on the ear to stimulate pressure points in the ear. It is a type of traditional Chinese medicine known as auriculotherapy, which is essentially acupuncture or acupressure on the ear. In traditional Chinese medicine, vaccaria seeds were used. Today, the seeds are made from metal, ceramic beads, or Swarovski crystals. Ear seeds can be used on their own or combined with other therapies, such as acupressure or acupuncture to enhance the effects.
Ear seeds are used to reduce headaches, back pain, anxiety, depression, stress, infertility, but are also used to treat addiction and prevent cravings. Ear seeds can also be used as a weight-loss tool.
Ear seeds are left on for five days but can fall off sooner depending on where they are placed. While using ear seeds check your ears daily for redness, swelling, soreness, and tenderness. If you experience any of these signs of irritation, remove the seeds right away. Although it is rare, you could experience dizziness, nausea, or drowsiness. If you do experience any of these, avoid driving. If you are pregnant, talk to your provider before trying ear seeds as they can induce early labor.
